Get creative and give back! Our Soup-Off is the grand finale of Sensational Elora and the culmination of the 2022 Elora Empty Bowls Project. The focus of this event is to raise funds for the fight against hunger in our community especially at this bountiful time of the year. The soup-off gives cooks, professional, amateur and youth, a fabulous opportunity to showcase their flair for soup-making. During this fun-filled day, these “super soupers” will be competing for the title of “Most Sensational Souper” as voted on by the public and our panel of celebrity judges. Chefs and cooks must pre-register by October 10th in order to participate in the competition.
Chefs and cooks are encouraged to use fresh, locally-grown ingredients, and provide a minimum of 20 quarts (18 L) of their signature soup. The public can then enjoy samples of each competitor’s creation and mark their ballot for their favourites. Awards will be given in the following categories:
Best Professional
Best Amateur
Best Youth (under 18)
Your soup will be judged by the tasting public. This counts 50% toward your final grade. The other 50% is based on a panel of celebrity judges: Their judging criteria will be:
Ingredients from local/regional/provincial growers - 40% (Spices are not considered in this category).
Flavour/Originality - 40%
Presentation (booth & soup) - 20%
